In honor of the 225th Anniversary of the United States Mint – The Mint Director’s Series Presents – The 1792 Half Disme Restrike NGC PF70 Signed by Edmund C. Moy, the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint
In 1792, the United States Mint struck its first coins as a new nation. Legend has it that the coins were struck using Martha Washington’s silver that was delivered to the Mint personally by Thomas Jefferson.
From Ed Moy, the 38th Director of the United States Mint, we are proud to offer this pure silver commemorative. As the first release in the Mint Director’s Series, this 1792 medal issue is an affordable way for historians, patriots and  collectors to celebrate one of the most important coins in U.S. history. Only 2,000 silver Proofs have been authorized.
NGC has certified them in perfect PR70 condition and each coin has been individually hand signed on its holder by Edmund C. Moy. Limited Edition coins connected to pivotal moments in history can generate heavy demand. Given the strong interest in this special pure silver collectible, there may not be enough to meet demand.
As noted in Thomas Jefferson’s memoranda, the 1792 Half Disme was produced from $75 of silver from July 11th-13th, 1792
Jefferson officially received 1,500 half dismes of the new coinage on July 13th, 1792 which he used to pay for tips to servants and other expenses during his trip to Monticello.
Jefferson spent and circulated the 1,500 half dismes during the span of July 13th, 1792 – October 5th, 1792 through Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
