2006 Benjamin Franklin Founding Father silver dollar ICG MS70
The United States mint struck these coins in 2006 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Franklin’s birth in1706. The design is based on a bust sculpture originally executed by French artist Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1778, while Franklin resided in Paris. Beneath Franklin’s effigy is a reproduction of his distinctive signature. The reverse design is a reproduction of the 1776 Continental Dollar, issued by the Second Continental Congress. This design is attributed to Benjamin Franklin. The admonition “MIND YOUR BUSINESS” appears below the Franklin-esque Latin motto “FUGIO” (“I fly”), with a sundial emphasizing the point. The particular obverse depicted is of the Die 3 variety, distinguished by the spelling of “Currency” and the signature of Elisha Gallaudet, an experienced bank note engraver of Freehold, New Jersey. The signature takes the form of the Latin “EG FE. The coins are offered as shown in the highest grade possible, MS70 certified by ICG.
