2008 PRESIDENTIAL PROOF SET CERTIFIED PR70 WITH EDGE LETTERING

A Proof is a specimen striking of coinage for presentation, souvenir or exhibition.

The term Proof refers to the method of manufacture of a coin and not its grade. Proof coins are the highest quality coins struck by the U.S. Mint. They are struck in limited quantities just for collectors. Coins are graded for quality on a 70-point basis with Proof 70 (PR70) being the highest grade any coin can receive. The grade of PR70 is reserved for perfect coins. Despite Proof coins being struck to much higher standards than regular coins, attaining the perfect PR70 status is still very elusive and only a small amount of Proof coins have ever been certified as PR70.
