To commemorate our bicentennial year, 1976, the U.S. Mint produced a new reverse design on three of our nation’s most popular collectible coins. A colonial drummer boy replaced the eagle on the reverse of the Washington quarter. Independence Hall in Philadelphia replaced the eagle on the Kennedy half dollar. A rendition of the Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon replaced the eagle/moon on the reverse of the Eisenhower dollar. Another distinct design feature of these special coins is that they have the dual date 1776-1976 on them. These 80% silver clad proof coins were minted for just one year in 1976. The value of these unique and interesting coins sets is further enhanced by being encapsulated and certified by PCGS and by having insets individually autographed by the three different artists who designed them. These are original signatures not copies of facsimile.
