Native American Dollars

 

Native American dollars are struck in limited quantities and are already being hoarded out of circulation by collectors. This new series of circulating dollar coins is based on the Sacagawea golden dollar series and has been issued by the government to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Native Americans. A different reverse design will be issued each year through 2016. This four piece collection has the first year of issue design that shows a Native American woman planting seeds using the Three sisters method of planting and the new 2010 design that depicts the Hiawatha Belt, which is a visual record of the Haudenosunee or Great Law of Peace.

 

 

You’ll get two coins struck and the Philadelphia mint and two coins struck by the Denver mint. Mass produced legal tender coins intended for circulation would usually grade at MS63 or better. All four coins in this collection have all been certified MS67, an exceptionally high grade preferred by collectors. Native American dollars are struck alongside Presidential dollars, which have the same specifications – Diameter 26.5 mm, Thickness 2.0 mm, Composition 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel. However, only 20% of the dollars produced in 2009 and 2010 have the Native American design. This coin series has a slightly modified obverse design from the elusive Sacagawea golden dollar 2000 – 2008. Sacagawea coin hold the unique distinction of commanding the highest  premium over face value of any modern issue coin.
