Hold California Gold Rush history in your hands!

California fractional gold pieces are small denomination coins issued by jewelers, engravers, and goldsmiths. They were used as small change to purchase everyday goods and supplies in the mining camps and towns during the California Gold Rush.

An interesting and historically significant series that has 500 varieties!

This fascinating series has five hundred varieties. They were used by the people who lived before us during the California Gold Rush for the necessities of life, such as, a place to eat, sleep, and have some fun. When you hold a vintage coin from this era in in your hand, you can’t help but imagine where it might have been in its lifetime!

History Condition & Rarity

History, condition and rarity and are important considerations in coin collecting. When measured against any other vintage coin series issued from 1852 – 1933, California fractional gold compares favorably. Most of the privately issued California fractional gold coins from Period one and Period two are extremely rare today as most were melted down and converted into new gold coins.

This coin has been authenticated, certified and graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), the largest coin grading service in the world. Adding a further level of exclusivity and value, it has been signed by Miles Standish, one of American numismatics' most recognized graders and authenticators of coins. These are the first ever group of “Signature Series” California Fractional coins.  Miles Standish was the first full-time coin grader at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), and became part owner in 1995. He joined NGC as Vice President in 2015. In the course of his career, Miles Standish has graded more than eight million coins, including some of the rarest and most valuable coins in the world.

The collectible value of California fractional gold is not measured in their weight, size or purity, but in their rich history, low survival rates and condition. The recent record auction price paid for an NGC certified California fractional was $82,250 in November 2016!
