2008 W $50 Gold Buffalo PCGS PR70 Signed by Thomas Cleveland – Extremely Low Population!

PCGS is showcasing this 2008 $50 American $50 Gold Buffalo Proof coin in perfect MS70 condition. Its collectability is further enhanced because the coin holder has been hand signed by Thomas S. Cleveland,  an original Master Designer from the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program (AIP).  Best known for the reverse design of the 2007 American Platinum Eagle, Cleveland carries design credits for 15 different U.S. Mint coins and medals.
In a news release made by PCGS informing collectors about their exclusive agreement with Thomas S. Cleveland Mark Stephenson said "This signature deal will allow collectors to further enhance their modern U.S. coins with authentic hand signed insert labels by one of the U.S. Mint’s celebrated AIP Master Designers, "
Public Law 109-145 dated December 22, 2005, authorized production of 24-karat American Buffalo Gold Coins sponsored by Honorable Michael Castle, the Coinage Congressman. The American Buffalo Gold Coin's obverse and reverse designs feature images by noted American sculptor James Earle Fraser, once a student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, for America's five-cent coin.
The Native American depiction on the coin's obverse is based on three different American Indians. The designer named two of the American Indians who modeled for him as he sculpted the coin before his death. They were Chief Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux and Chief Two Moons of the Cheyenne. Although many have claimed to have had a sitting with Fraser for this design, he could not recall the name of the third person, and satisfactory documentation has not yet been found to identify that individual. Historians believe that the bison on the coin's reverse was Black Diamond, a favorite attraction at the New York Zoological Gardens.
