ANCIENT SILVER DRACHM – COINS OF THE THREE WISE MEN $99
These NGC certified authentic Silver Drachm of Azes II coins are an ideal stocking filler for any collector, historian or a family member you want to introduce to our fascinating hobby and pastime! Everyone knows the story of the Three Wise Men who visited Baby Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago!
Many scholars believe the wise man Gaspar to have been a representative sent by “The Great King” Azes II of ancient Bactria, modern day Afghanistan, to the Holy Land to pay homage to the newborn Jesus. His travels were almost certain to have been financed by these same silver drachm coins.
These remarkably well preserved silver drachm coins are over two thousand years old and depict Azes II on horseback, with a standing figure of Zeus/Athena on the reverse. This is one of the first documented bilingual coins in the world, making it easy to use in trade between ancient Greece and the Middle East. One of the many attractions of collecting ancient coins is wondering where they have been and who may have held them!
